""Memories"
Joanne & Laddie Lastoka were fortunate to be encouraged to participate in licensed shows and obedience trials with the purchase of our first Golden in 1965.  It fostered a lifelong LOVE of the Breed and the Sport of Dogs!  This page is dedicated to our "First's", our first Goldens and snapshot's of our beginnings.
"Rusty" 2 mo. 1965 Rusty  November 1966
The day after our son was born, a good hunt!

Rusty. aka Laddie's Golden Tassel, CD was our first Golden, our "baby" as a young couple newly married.  She loved swimming in the lake, chasing sticks, loved working in obedience even though
she was the first dog Joanne ever learned to train, and she had to "train" her owner.  She was pointed in Breed competition,  had two legs toward her CDX degree and a big heart, but weak hips...so we continued to love her, but gave up the competition.  She was a very willing "demo" dog for 4-H obedience and showmanship classes for many years, and was a faithful family dog & eager hunting compaion for Laddie.  Later when our son arrived, she welcomed the new baby to the household very "Goldenly".  She was a deeply loved member of our family and she taught us many lessons about the Breed.

Ch Duck Pass Noble Impulse, our first Champion and our first Group Winner!  "Imp" was
purchased as an adolescent and we had a lot of fun showing him and making him a part  of our family.  We had several other Goldens during this time, earned a number of CD degrees, but these were our winners.

"Our little helper", our son Trev, with some of our first puppies!
"Snaglepuss" garnered his call name from the Lion, acartoon character of the early 1960's.
 He had the clownish behavior,
the "big Lion Snarl" and was a very regal solid guy as well, with "big ponderosa's" for legs
as Laddie would say!  Snag was terrified of Thunderstorms, and we battled those fears all of
his life, but he was a much loved and cherished member of our family until the day he died.
This is a dog we were immensely proud to have bred, raised and showed as breeder/owner
handlers, but he was never used for breeding purposes.
Essentially, our story as competitive Breeders began again with the purchase of our Morningsage Malagold Honey, who we showed to "points" toward her Ch. title in both the U.S. and Canada, but "proved" herself being an Outstanding producer!
"Snag" and "Honey" shown below, were the models for our Morningsage Logo!

"Honey" was a very independant Golden girl....must have been her English heritage!
She was endearing and smart as could be, but exasperating at the same time.  Many a time,
she would craftily grab at the chance to make a "run for it", if you missed the grab for her collar, while bringing her in the house, from the fenced back yard, to the back door.  I frankly don't know
how she or I lived so long, as many a time I was stopping 18 wheel truck traffic on the main highway a half block from the house, with the sheer determination (stupidly so I admit...but I was
very young!) that if "they" were going to smash my Honey on the road they were going to have to
get me along with her!  She lived to a pretty ripe old age...she was a tough gal!  She used to
drop every puppy she ever had on its head on the cement as their "welcome into the world"!
AM & CAN CH Morningsage Little Big Man
"Snag" is pictured as a Veteran Dog above.
He was our first golden that "smiled", and did he love to "show"!
He moved effortlessly and was pure joy to watch.
One of my favorite stories, was the day I lost the lead in the ring,
in really stiff competition, and "Snag" just continued around the ring "minus handler"!
So embarrassing, but he won!
